Abstract

The archived data consist of 32 diaries written in Finnish about the work, life, and feelings of women living in rural Finland. The data were collected in connection with a questionnaire survey (FSD2043) where every 40th sampled person was asked to write a diary in addition to completing the questionnaire. They were asked to keep a diary for a week of their everyday activities, events and feelings.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

Sampling Procedure

Probability: Stratified

The data were collected as part of a wider survey. The questionnaires were sent to women aged 18-74 living in sparsely populated areas or small population centres (under 500 inhabitants). People in the sample were drawn from the Population Register by using random sampling so that different types of rural areas were represented. Out of the sampled persons, approximately the 40th name was selected for each type of rural area and the people selected in this manner were asked to also send a diary. In total, 70 requests for diaries were sent and approximately half, 32 women, returned their diaries.
