Tampere University have regularly monitored the employment situation of the recently graduated. The studies focus on students' employment situation a year after graduation. Since 1994, those who have completed a master's degree have been surveyed. Employment surveys have also been conducted for Tampere University postgraduates since 1996. Additionally, employment of bachelor graduates has been surveyed from the 2010 graduates onwards. FSD collections contain data from 1994 to 2016 and from 2021 to 2022. Archiving of the series has been discontinued.

Each dataset includes several questions about respondents' search for work and current employment situation. Other themes include difficulties in finding employment and the knowledge and skills needed at work. Background information covers respondent's gender, field of study and faculty. Surveys are conducted by the student services of Tampere University.

The survey charted the employment situation of persons who had obtained a post-graduate degree from the University of Tampere in the year 1997. The data were collected in 1999. The respondents were asked about their current employment situation, nature of the work, and whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications and whether a post-graduate degree was necessary for it. Experiences of working or studying abroad were studied. Participation in a graduate school was surveyed.

Some questions covered the respondents' employment history between the graduate and post-graduate degrees. Respondents were also asked whether they had stopped gainful employment for postgraduate studies and how had they financed their studies. One topic pertained to job searching: job searching methods used, employment sectors and type of employers approached, and the location of the job obtained were investigated. Respondents were asked why they had wanted a post-graduate degree. Opinions on whether the post-graduate degree has enhanced or hindered their career opportunities were charted.

The questionnaire was sent to all 118 persons living in Finland who had obtained a postgraduate degree at the University of Tampere in 1997.

There are no weight variables in the data. 71 Value labels 6 and 7 of the recoded, open-ended variable q26 are not confirmed. Detailed and specific data description in Finnish and English. The data are checked and processed in detail. If necessary, the data are anonymised. Finnish Social Science Data Archive Variables connected to questions 1, 2, 7.1, 11, 12, 16.1 and 25.1 in the questionnaire are missing, along with 'Other, please specify'-type open-ended responses and open-ended responses in questions 3, 13, and 16. To prevent identification, job title (q5) and degree level (licentiate/doctorate) were removed from the data during archiving. Background variables obtained from the student register were re-categorised or removed when necessary to minimise the risk of identification, and some smaller fields of study were categorised together with other fields. The dataset is (B) available for research, teaching and study. The data and its creators shall be cited in all publications and presentations for which the data have been used.
