<abstract>

The study was conducted in Nicaragua, Central America. The purpose of the study was to examine how small-scale tourist programmes organised in small communities had affected the communities. The research data consist of interview transcriptions which were originally in Spanish and were then translated into English. The questions were about the development of the tourism project and how it affected the life and values of the communities.

The dataset is only available in English.

Communities for the study were selected among the communities supported by the SGP Programme of the UNDP. The researcher visited several communities and eventually chose the Fair Trade Coffee Trail Programme in San Ramon. Four communities participated in the programme and three of these were selected for the study (La Pita, El Roblar and La Corona), because they were alike, development of tourism had been similar in them and they were pioneering communities in terms of the development of tourism in Nicaragua.
