Abstract

The data consist of face-to-face interviews of 16 female entrepreneurs in the North Karelia and Pirkanmaa regions in Finland. The main themes of the interviews were female entrepreneurship in rural areas, challenges and advantages of rural enterprise, reasons for becoming an entrepreneur, financial circumstance at the time of the interview, financial prospects, and life-work balance. The same entrepreneurs were interviewed in 2001-2002 and again in 2009. Background variables included the interviewee's occupation/industry and region.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

16 Finnish female entrepreneurs from rural areas in North Karelia and Pirkanmaa regions were selected to be interviewed. The interviewees had volunteered for an in-depth interview earlier when they had responded to a postal survey aimed at female entrepreneurs.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The interviews were anonymised. Places of business and residence as well as other references to home municipalities etc. were removed. Names of people were also removed.
