The study investigated forest machine contracting in Finland and changes brought by the rationalization that has taken place in felling and logging operations. Data were collected through interviews, and the dataset consists of 12 interview transcripts. The interviewees were forest machine contractors. Main themes were the development of the business, staff and recruitment, operational practices, future prospects of the business, and changes in the operational environment. Background variables included the interview date and the number of staff members in the business.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

Interviewees were recruited by sending letters to members of the local associations of the Machine Contractors' Union in Pirkanmaa and Kainuu regions. Twelve contractors participated in the study.

Altogether, there are approximately 400 pages of interviews. The interviewees, their companies or any potential third parties mentioned by the interviewees shall not be identifiable in publications based on the data. Furthermore, the interviewees' municipalities of residence (including cities and towns) or locations of their workplaces must not be identifiable in published quotations from the data. The real names of persons or companies mentioned in the data must not be included in published excerpts. Pseudonyms, which are marked with double square brackets, may be included in publications based on the data. The dataset is (B) available for research, teaching and study. The data and its creators shall be cited in all publications and presentations for which the data have been used. The bibliographic citation may be in the form suggested by the archive or in the form required by the publication. The original data creators and the archive bear no responsibility for any results or interpretations arising from the reuse of the data. The data were anonymised by replacing the names of the interviewees, their companies and third persons by pseudonyms. Information on the interviewees' places of residence and areas of operation were removed from the interviews.
