Tampere University have regularly monitored the employment situation of the recently graduated. The studies focus on students' employment situation a year after graduation. Since 1994, those who have completed a master's degree have been surveyed. Employment surveys have also been conducted for Tampere University postgraduates since 1996. Additionally, employment of bachelor graduates has been surveyed from the 2010 graduates onwards. FSD collections contain data from 1994 to 2016 and from 2021 to 2022. Archiving of the series has been discontinued.
Each dataset includes several questions about respondents' search for work and current employment situation. Other themes include difficulties in finding employment and the knowledge and skills needed at work. Background information covers respondent's gender, field of study and faculty. Surveys are conducted by the student services of Tampere University.
The survey charted the employment situation and job placement of persons who had graduated from the University of Tampere in 2011.
Current employment situation, employment history before and after graduation, and experiences of unemployment after graduation were investigated. The respondents were asked about the nature of their current job and whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications. One topic covered job searching methods used. The respondents were asked which factors had been the most important in obtaining their current job and which factors may have hindered or prevented them from finding a job. Views were probed on whether they had gained useful skills and abilities (e.g. information seeking skills, social skills, language skills, problem solving skills) from their studies. Satisfaction with the degree and plans for further study were also surveyed.
Background variables included the respondent's gender, region, and information on the degree (degree programme, faculty, field of study and time of starting studies).
Questionnaires were mailed to all persons who had completed their M.A. or Licenciate of Medicine degree at the University of Tampere in 2011. The persons who graduated with a lower (Bachelor's) degree, for instance Bachelors of Education (nursery school teachers), were not included in the survey. The respondents received the questionnaire roughly one year after their graduation. Of the 997 persons who had completed their degree in 2011, 636 persons responded to the survey.
