The dataset consists of texts written by parents aged under 40 on their experiences of parenthood. The study aimed to collect data on how parents experience and discuss their parenthood as well as what kinds of feelings parents have towards their children and other family members.

In the writing guidelines, the participants were invited to write about their relationship with their children and other adults in the family and the feelings they experienced relating to parenthood. Additionally, the writers were asked to discuss how their perception of family life had changed after having children and what family meant to them.

Background information included the participant's gender and age. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

The survey was shared on the following social media channels: grapevine communities for different cities (around 10 communities), the Facebook page of Joensuun Perheentalo, and different topics on the vauva.fi discussion forum.

Additionally, the data were organised into an easy to use HTML version and a CSV version. Three texts were removed from the archived data because the writer did not consent to the archiving of their text. Additionally, six response containing only the writer's background information was removed. The data may contain indirect identifiers. When publishing quotations from the data, users need to consider very carefully in each specific case what information needs to be removed or altered according to research ethical guidelines. The dataset is (B) available for research, teaching and study. The data and its creators shall be cited in all publications and presentations for which the data have been used. The bibliographic citation may be in the form suggested by the archive or in the form required by the publication.
