The material consists of writings related to Finns' memories of the 1973 military coup in Chile.

In the writing call respondents were asked to write about how they experienced the events of the military coup in Chile and the coverage of these events in Finland. As a guiding question, the respondents were asked whether the they had participated for example in solidarity campaigns or concerts as a spectator or performer, whether they had been involved in organising solidarity events or whether they remembered any demonstrations. Respondents were also asked whether they started to follow world politics in a new way after the events in Chile. The call also asked for any encounters with Chilean refugees.

The respondent's gender, age and occupation are given as background information, if provided by the respondent. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.

The call was open to anyone who wanted to share their memories of the military coup in Chile in 1973. The writing call was published on the website of the Finnish Literary Society (SKS). In addition to the SKS, it was organised by cultural editor Tiina Harpf and the Chile 50 years -working group.

The data archived in the FSD contains only those writings that the author has allowed to be archived in the FSD. The complete material is available in the archives of the Finnish Literary Society (SKS). The data may contain identifiers that have not been anonymised (e.g. person names, information on place of residence, names of work places and such). When publishing quotations from the data, users need to consider very carefully in each specific case what information needs to be removed or altered according to research ethical guidelines. The dataset is (B) available for research, teaching and study. The data and its creators shall be cited in all publications and presentations for which the data have been used. The bibliographic citation may be in the form suggested by the archive or in the form required by the publication. The original data creators and the archive bear no responsibility for any results or interpretations arising from the reuse of the data. The names of the authors and any other direct identifiers have been removed from the writings in the FSD. In addition, also strong indirect identifiers referring to the authors have been removed (including pseudonyms). All identifiers referring to third parties have also been removed. In addition, images accompanying the articles have been removed from the archived data if they would have revealed the identity of the author or third parties.
