The survey was used to collect information on user experiences with the National Library of Finland's digital collections and services, as well as ideas for their development. The survey was targeted at researchers who use the National Library's digital materials and services.

The survey explored respondents' knowledge, experiences, and needs related to, for example, digital collections and entities, collaboration with the National Library of Finland, tools used in conjunction with digital collections, and the support they have received or would like to receive from the National Library of Finland. In addition, the survey included open-ended questions in which respondents were asked to describe the strengths and weaknesses of using the National Library of Finland's digital collections, as well as their requirements for these materials. They were also encouraged to provide suggestions for the development of the National Library of Finland's digital collections, data services, and research support.

Background variables in the dataset include the respondent's home organization, research stage, and discipline.

The research invitation was distributed via various websites and through the channels of the National Library of Finland.

The response options [Käytän mieluummin fyysistä tutkimuskirjallisuutta] and [Käytän mieluummin elektronista tutkimuskirjallisuutta] for question 20 in the survey form were shown only to respondents who had first selected the option [Tutkimukseeni kohdennettua tutkimuskirjallisuutta (fyysistä tai elektronista)]. Therefore, answering variables k20_4_1 and k20_4_2 was conditional on the respondent having answered variable k20_4. The data collection period was from 15 January 2024 to 9 February 2024. The dataset includes one test respondent (response dated 12 January), who was included in the final data as they belonged to the target group. Detailed and specific data description in Finnish and English. The data are checked and processed in detail. If necessary, the data are anonymised. The data and its creators shall be cited in all publications and presentations for which the data have been used. The original data creators and the archive bear no responsibility for any results or interpretations arising from the reuse of the data. For reasons of identifiability, the data has been anonymized at FSD by removing the open-ended responses related to questions 1 and 4. One individual response to variable k2 has also been removed. The open-ended responses in the data have been edited so that all direct and indirect identifiable information has been anonymized, and some responses have been removed entirely.
