Aineistossa kartoitetaan pohjoismaisten musiikkikorkeakoulujen henkilöstön käsityksiä julkisesta pedagogiikasta, yhteiskunnallisesta osallistumisesta sekä politiikan ja musiikin korkeakoulutuksen välisestä suhteesta.

Aluksi vastaajilta tiedusteltiin, ovatko he hyödyntäneet julkisen pedagogiikan ideoita omassa opetuksessaan. Tarkentavasti kysyttiin, millaisia julkisia tiloja tai ihmisryhmiä on ollut mukana heidän taiteellisessa ja/tai pedagogisessa työssään. Vastaajat saivat myös kuvata omin sanoin, mitä julkinen pedagogiikka heidän mielestään tarkoittaa musiikin korkeakoulutuksessa. Lopuksi kysyttiin, millaisia muutoksia julkisen pedagogiikan ajatus voisi tuoda heidän opetukseensa tai instituutioonsa.

Seuraavaksi vastaajilta kysyttiin näkemyksiä politiikasta ja yhteiskunnallisesta osallistumisesta. Heiltä tiedusteltiin muun muassa, miten yhteiskunnallinen osallistuminen näkyy heidän oppilaitoksissaan, opetussuunnitelmissaan ja opetuksessaan. Lisäksi vastaajilta kysyttiin poliittisen elämän ja musiikin korkeakoulutuksen välisestä suhteesta. Lopuksi vastaajat kertoivat kolme toivomusta omalle instituutiolleen.

Aineiston taustamuuttujia ovat koulutustausta ja koulutusala sekä maa, jossa vastaajan instituutti sijaitsee.

Kyselyyn kutsuttiin osallistumaan neljän pohjoismaisen musiikkikorkeakoulun tutkimus- ja opetushenkilöstöä sekä päättäjiä. Osallistujat kutsuttiin vastaamaan kyselyyn yliopistojen ja kansallisten verkostojen julkisten sähköpostilistojen kautta sekä lumipallomenetelmällä. Yhdestä maasta ei saatu yhtäkään vastausta. Kysely toteutettiin Surveypal-palvelussa.

Aineisto on kuvailtu mahdollisimman kattavasti suomeksi ja englanniksi. Aineisto on tarkistettu ja muokattu yksityiskohtaisesti. Tarvittaessa aineistosta on poistettu tunnisteita. Yhteiskuntatieteellinen tietoarkisto Tietoarkistossa aineistosta poistettiin kolme havaintoa osittaisen vastaamatta jättämisen vuoksi. Aineisto on käytettävissä (D) vain luovuttajan luvalla. Aineistoon ja sen tekijöihin tulee viitata asianmukaisesti kaikissa julkaisuissa ja esityksissä, joissa aineistoa käytetään.
