The data contains information on the background, education, and life courses of university students born in Savo during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The data compiles information from parish registers maintained by the clergy of Savo parishes on the origins, studies, marriages, and changes in social status of university students born in Savo.
The data includes information on the family background and social origins of the students, such as the social class of the student's father and father-in-law as well as the social status of the family. In addition, the data contains information on the positions and occupations that the students later attained and on the social class and occupation of their sons. The data also includes information on whether the student was married, the student's age, and age at death. Furthermore, the data covers the extent of the students' upward social mobility.
The study includes all university students born in Savo who were identified in the examined records for the period 1721-1865. The information was gathered primarily from parish registers maintained by the clergy of Savo parishes and from the student registers of the University of Helsinki, as well as, to a lesser extent, from other genealogical registers and family histories compiled according to scholarly principles.
