<abstract>

The dataset consists of interviews with people who have a home composting system, collected as part of the DECAY and WasteMatters projects. Interview topics included the adoption of home composting, unwanted insects, animals, and other materials associated with home composts, participants' relationship to composting, and the maintenance of composting systems. The interviewees discuss, for example, their composting routines, the seasonal cycle of composting, challenging and enjoyable composting-related tasks, their reasons for composting, and how they make use of the by-products generated through composting.

The interviews were guided by an interview guide, although some questions arose spontaneously during the interview situations. Depending on the interview, the number of interviewees ranged from one to two persons.
