Abstract

The survey charted the employment situation of persons who had graduated from the University of Tampere in 2000. Current employment status, employment history and experiences of unemployment after graduation were investigated. Respondents were asked about the nature of their current job and whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications.

One topic covered respondents' job searching methods. Respondents were also asked which factors were most important in obtaining their current job or, if they were unemployed, which factors may have prevented them from finding employment. Opinions on what skills and abilities their employers value were probed.

Background variables included the respondent's gender, region, and information on the degree (degree programme, faculty, field of study, time of starting studies).

Questionnaires were sent in two consignments to all who had completed their degree at the University of Tampere in 2000. Respondents received the questionnaire about one year after their graduation.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The data do not contain open-ended questions. Background variables obtained from the student register were re-categorised when necessary to minimise the risk of identification. Because only two males graduated in health sciences in 2000, and only one responded to the survey, this respondent was coded as female to prevent identification.

Weighting

There are no weight variables in the data.
