Abstract

The study consists of interviews conducted between 1996 and 2000, in connection with a study on the politicisation of urban environment and the formation of environmental problems in society. The respondents were citizens of Tampere who have a long experience in working with environmental issues. Topics included local administration, political culture, environmental activity, and environmental problems and disputes specific to Tampere. The data include 35 interviews with a total length of 183 pages.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

The dataset is a part of wider qualitative data. The interviews were conducted in two stages: the interviewees in the second stage were key persons selected based on the first interviews (members of environmental organisations or movements, people actively participating in environmental disputes, and long-term politicians in the local government). The purpose of the interviews in the first stage was to chart the topic more closely and select the environmental disputes to be analysed.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The eight archived interviews were transcribed verbatim in a digital format during the research project. Digital interview notes were written on two interviews and these were also archived.

Ten out of the original 35 interviews were archived. Some of the original digitally stored interviews were lost as a result of a stolen computer.
