Abstract
The data were collected by interviewing 22 single parents in 2001 and 2003. The interview topics included income level, alimony received, education, residential environment, family relations, divorce/break-up and life after it, child care, prejudices against single parents, selecting a place of residence, and the quality of welfare services. The interviews were conducted in the suburbs and villages of an urban municipality located in southern Finland.
Background variables included the respondent's age, marital status, level of education, employment status, number of children under school age, and number of children under 18 years of age.
The dataset is only available in Finnish.

In 2001, the interviewees were recruited through maternity and child health clinics, and after some interviewees were found, more were found by snowball sampling. In 2003, the interviewees were recruited out of the respondents of a survey conducted by the Departments of Education and Social Policy in the University of Turku. The respondents had been asked about their willingness to participate in an interview at the end of the survey.

The interviews were anonymised at FSD.
One of the interviewees did not give consent to archiving their interview. The archived data do not contain the summary of this interview.
