Abstract
The survey was part of a multifaceted evaluation of neighbourhood sports facilities carried out by Young Finland Association. Data were collected from four different sources: from project managers of sports facility construction projects (FSD2537), children and young people in the neighbourhood where the facility is located (FSD2535), their parents (FSD2536), and schools if the facility was located in the schoolyard (FSD2538). The main themes in the school survey were evaluation of the neighbourhood sports facility construction project and the impact of the improved schoolyard.
The respondents were asked how satisfied they were with different aspects of the construction project and the final result (e.g. possibilities to influence planning, functionality of the improved schoolyard for different uses and users). Impact of the improved schoolyard was charted by asking whether it had increased physical activites during school break times, whether it had had an effect on antisocial behaviour during the breaks and whether it had improved concentration during class, etc.
Background variables included the school name, number of students, and school and neighbourhood type.
