Abstract

The data comprise 20 transcribed interviews of young people who worked as short-term seasonal employees in ski and holiday resorts in Finnish Lapland.

The interviewees were asked questions relating to their friends, childhood family, hobbies, education, work history, and the education and jobs of their parents. Further questions focused on values and attitudes relating to short-term work and work in general, social security benefits received from the government, job seeking, the nature of their current job, shifts in the current job, leisure time, relationships, values in life, world view and future expectations.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The researcher removed names, addresses and dates of birth of the interviewees from the data. Names referring to third parties were removed from the data at FSD.

22 interviews were originally conducted, but recording of two of them failed. In addition to the interviews of young people, telephone interviews of public employment services and employment workshops were conducted but not recorded. The failed interviews and the telephone interviews are not included in the archived data.

The interviewees must not be identifiable in any publications making use of the data. The age, gender and education of an interviewee may be disclosed in the analysis of the data. The names of the workplaces and other names mentioned by the interviewees shall be coarsened in the analysis and any other publications making use of the data. The names of fells or municipalities/towns must not be disclosed in publications. The Standard Industrial Classification and Statistical Grouping of Municipalities provided by Statistics Finland may be used when coarsening the data. Alternatively, the names of restaurants, cafes, hotels and gift shops, for example, can be simply replaced with common nouns as follows: [restaurant], [cafe], [hotel] and [gift shop].
