Abstract

The study charted the views of researchers and other staff in the University of Tampere, Finland, on Open Access self-archiving.

The respondents were asked questions about Open Access publishing, universities' Open Access repositories and copyright issues, for example, the importance of open access to scholarly publications, familiarity with self-archiving in the University of Tampere repository (TamPub), ways of making publications available on the Internet, and willingness to self-archive post-prints of articles in the open institutional repository.

Background variables included the respondent's age, position/rank in the university, and school/institute.

The survey was available for all staff members in the University of Tampere. A notification about the survey was sent to the population via email. The survey was also advertised on the website and intranet of the University of Tampere. 205 persons out of the targeted 2,000 responded to the survey.
