Abstract

The data consist of the interviews of people in paid work who regularly cared for a person close to them. The interviews were conducted in 2008 and 2009 and the main theme was combining paid work and informal care. The interviews cover, among others, informal care, employment, family and social relationships, leisure time, public services, and future. The study was part of an international WoCaWo project (Working Careers and Caring Workers: Making Paid Employment and Care Responsibilities Compatible?). The Finnish members of the project included the University of Jyväskylä, Finnish Institute of Occupational Health, and Finnish Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The project membership was funded by the Research Programme on the Future of Work and Well-being of the Academy of Finland.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

The interviewees were mostly recruited with newspaper and magazine advertisements. Additionally, a few large employers distributed the invitation to participate on their staff email lists or otherwise notified their staff about the study. The interviewees were primarily from Southern, Western and Central Finland. For the most part, the interviews were conducted at the homes of the interviewees, but some were conducted in cafes, at universities or at the participant's workplace.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The data were anonymised by the researcher by changing or coarsening references to the interviewees, third persons or places and other sensitive information. In some cases during the archiving process, the Data Archive further anonymised some potential identifiers.

A total of 76 interviews were collected, but five of them were removed due to identifiers and five because the interviewees did not allow archiving of their data.
