Abstract

The data contain chat and e-mail discussions between guidance counsellors and Finnish youth who sought help with their problems in the Suunta E-Guidance Service. The problems focused on education, employment, and general life management. Suunta service is an anonymous web-based chat service for youth between the ages of 15 and 25.

The background variables were the contact date, counselor number, and type of counsel (chat or e-mail). In addition, the data contain an original case id, which can be used to link the discussion to the original publication.

The data contain the discussions that took place during data gathering. Consent for using these discussions as a part of the study was obtained from the youth. Four volunteer counsellors from Save the Children ry operated as the data collectors.
