Abstract

This dataset consists of a collection of peer-reviewed research and doctoral dissertations related to Russia's security policy, conducted in various research institutes in Finland and published between 2011 and 2015. The dataset contains 461 studies. The data were categorised according to 24 research themes, such as security policy, strategy, and security thinking, military, Russia and NATO, oil, gas and energy, the arctic, foreign policy, geopolitics, anti-terrorism action, culture, and education.

Background variables included, among others, author, title, type and year of the publication, publisher, and organisation.

Non-probability: Purposive

The data were collected by combing through the research portals of thirteen Finnish universities, the Finnish Institute of International Affairs and the Finnish Defence Forces. The Juuli portal was the main channel used for data collection: peer-reviewed research and doctoral dissertations published between 2011 and 2014 were retrieved through Juuli. The research portals of each Finnish university were used for retrieving studies published in 2015. The keywords used to search for relevant studies included different forms of the word 'Russia' in different languages: russ*, venä* and rys*. From the total of 2,200 publications, 461 studies were chosen to be more specifically categorised. The main criterion for choosing the publications was that the publication channel had been awarded with a level 1 - 3 rating by the Publication Forum.
