Abstract

The data, collected as free text responses from participants, chart reasons for and experiences of applying for unsecured consumer loans. Twenty people participated in the study.

The participants were asked why they had applied for unsecured consumer loans (payday loans or "quick loans") offered by other institutions than traditional banks. The reasons ranged from various life situations, unexpected costs and slow working of the social support system. Some participants also wrote about the repayment of the loans.

Background information included the participants' gender, year of birth, place of residence as well as their age and education level at the time they had applied for the loan.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.
