Abstract

This dataset consists of 32 texts written by people who have meaningful memories of life-changing teachers.

In the invitation to write, the participants were asked to describe the characteristics of the teacher that had changed their life as well as the actions of the teacher that had been especially significant and influential for them. The participants were also asked to describe more specifically how the teacher had affected their life. The texts contain stories from different levels of education, ranging from primary to upper secondary education.

Background information included the participant's gender, age group, and highest level of education, as well as when (on which level of education) and where (the municipality where the school was located, categorised) the participants had met the life-changing teacher. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

The invitation to write was shared on social media. Additionally, short notices were published in five local newspapers.

32 responses in separate TXT files. Additionally, the data were organised into an easy to use HTML version and a CSV version.

Qualitative data are available in their original language only and are not translated.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The data were reviewed by FSD and any full names of persons were replaced with a categorised description, e.g. [Female teacher] or [Male teacher]. If the text contained only the first name of a person, the name was not removed from the data. The data were collected for the purposes of academic or literary expression. Some personal data essential for the reuse of the data, such as indirect identifiers referring to the writer, were purposely not removed.

Three responses were removed from the archived data because the respondents did not consent to archiving.

Citation Requirement

The data and its creators shall be cited in all publications and presentations for which the data have been used. The bibliographic citation may be in the form suggested by the archive or in the form required by the publication.
