Abstract
This survey is a partial repeat of Erik Allardt's internationally renowned 1972 welfare survey (FSD1017). The survey charted various dimensions of welfare in Finland: living standards, loyalties, experiences of self-realisation, alienation, happiness and dissatisfaction. This repeat of the 1972 survey was funded by a Finnish Cultural Foundation grant from the Paavo Koskinen Fund.
Questions covered, among other topics, housing, work, employment, social participation, equality, contrasts between population groups, and health. Additionally, the respondents were asked about their friendships, how many friends they had, how long their friendships lasted, and how intense their friendships were. Relationships with family and neighbours were examined, and the respondents were asked about their hobbies, how they spent their leisure time, and how politically active they were. The survey also included 18 constructed variables (variables starting with k) that related to Allardt's indicators of welfare and well-being (having, loving, being).
Background variables included the respondent's gender, age, marital status, occupation/status in employment, income bracket, situation in life, number of children living in the household and their age groups, type of accommodation, regional variables, political party preference, and household size and income bracket.

Sampling Procedure
Mixed probability and non-probability
A sample was drawn from among the Taloustutkimus internet panel based on age, gender and region of residence. The survey was sent to 11,123 panel members, of whom 2,539 responded to the survey.
The Taloustutkimus internet panel consists of people aged over 15 residing in Finland. All panel members disclose their demographic and sociographic background information when signing up for the panel and give their consent for receiving invitations from Taloustutkimus to participate in different studies. Responding to a survey is completely voluntary for the panel members and the members can resign from the panel at any time. Panel members have been recruited in both online and offline environments. To ensure the quality of responses and representation of the panel, all members who were recruited in an offline environment were recruited while conducting phone or door-to-door surveys for which the sample was representative of the Finnish population (excluding the Åland Islands), or with other randomised phone or letter campaigns. Members who were recruited in an online environment were recruited through various different channels.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions
The sample is biased due to variation in the population regarding the availability of internet, activity in using the internet, and interest in the research topic. People who are in employment are over-represented in the data, and people who have only completed basic education are under-represented.
To prevent identification of respondents, the variable denoting municipality of residence was removed from the data at FSD.
Weighting
The data contain two weight variables: the [paino] and [oikaisu] variables. The [paino] variable weights the data to be representative of the age, gender and NUTS2 major region (Helsinki and Uusimaa, other Southern Finland, Western Finland and Eastern and Northern Finland) distributions of the 15-79-year-old population (in thousands, n=4,298). The [oikaisu] variable allows for matching the sample to the population without increasing sample size (n=2,560).
