Abstract
The dataset contains annual statistics from Finnish scientific libraries for 2013 according to international library statistics standards. The dataset covers data and indicators on library premises, branches, collections, services, acquisitions, use, users, opening hours, finances, and staff. The statistical data have been collected from the National Library of Finland, university libraries, university of applied sciences libraries, and a few specialised libraries. The collecting organisations are specified in the data file.
The collecting organisations compiled the statistical data in accordance with the following standards: ISO 2789 (International library statistics), ISO 11620 (Library performance indicators), and ISO TR 28118 (Performance indicators for national libraries). More information on the data collection can be found in the KITT user guide (available only in Finnish, see Related Materials).

Data Sources
Information on library collections, their use and users is usually collected from the database of the library system used by the library. Data on finances, facilities, staff, and training are collected from other sources. Data on the Finnish National Electronic Library (FinELib) have been produced for each library by the National Library of Finland. For more information on the data collection, see the KITT user guide (available only in Finnish, see Related materials).
Sampling Procedure
Total universe/Complete enumeration
The Joint Statistics of Scientific Libraries 2013 dataset provides an overview of the resources, collections, and services of Finnish scientific libraries. The statistics are based on international library statistics standards. Each library was responsible for collecting their own data. The National Library of Finland was responsible for the maintenance and development of the Research Library Statistics Database, and instructed the data collection, reviewed the data, and asked the libraries to make corrections where necessary.

Research Instrument
Data collection guidelines (Instructions for the data collection (in Finnish) are included in the KITT user guide, see Related materials. The organisations involved entered their annual statistics into the Research Library Statistics Database maintained by the National Library of Finland using the database's reporting tools. The data could be entered by using a formatted XML file or by manual input.)
