Abstract
The dataset consists of self-administered written texts in which people describe their experiences of domestic violence and their recovery from it. The data was collected using FSD's Penna textual data collection tool for the Violence to Safety doctoral dissertation.
In the writing invitation, participants were asked to share their experiences of domestic violence. The researcher also listed some specific questions that the participants could use in formulating their thoughts. The first question concerned how the violence had affected the writer's life and whether the violence or the threat of violence was still present in their lives. The next question concerned whether the writer had told anyone about the violence or sought help, and where they had got help. They were also asked what had helped them to cope and manage in everyday life and what it had taken to recover from the violence. The next topic was the importance of security and what security is built on, how it feels and how the lack of it is reflected in life. A final question concerned the services and support that people who have experienced domestic violence need.
Background information included the participant's gender, age group and type of municipality of residence. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.
