Abstract

The survey asks decision-makers for their opinions on the 2021 municipal elections and on Finnish society and democracy in general. The respondents are municipal councilors. The data was collected as part of the Politician Panel, which is part of The Finnish Research Infrastructure for Public Opinion (FIRIPO).

First, respondents were asked whether they thought it was right to postpone the municipal elections until June. They were also asked whether they intended to become candidates and whether the postponement of the municipal elections had any impact on their intentions to become candidates. Respondents were then asked whether they thought that the postponement of the municipal elections would benefit or harm a particular party and, if so, which party. Finally, respondents were asked how satisfied they were with the state of democracy in Finland and asked about general statements about Finnish society and politics.

The background variables are mother tongue, electoral district, age classified and party membership.
