Abstract

The main theme of the survey was entrepreneurship. First, the respondents were presented a set of attitudinal statements about work, working life, unemployment and success at work. They were asked what kind of company they would set up, if it was economically possible. The survey also charted whether there were entrepreneurs in the family of the respondent. The respondents were asked to assess how closely they identified with different groups or areas, such as family, school or work community, town or municipality, Finnish society and the European union. They also rated the importance of different life values, for example, an exciting life, national security, material well-being, clean environment and animal rights.

Views on security were studied by asking respondents to evaluate social security in Finland (social security benefits), insecurities in their own life (health, studies, employment, income, world politics), and risks (stock investments, student loans, medicines, alcohol, casual sex). Lastly, the respondents' opinions on the name that characterizes their generation best were examined (e.g. generation Y or mobile phone generation). They also assessed the differences between generations and whether the differences pertained to economy, values or education. The respondents were asked to envisage the development of their generation's financial situation and political power in the future. Background variables included the respondent's gender and age, the respondent's and their parents' education level, main activity, economic activity, employment situation, province and region of residence.
