Abstract
This dataset was collected during photography workshops for young people in Finland. The data consist of three field journals of the researchers, and transcripts of 17 interviews: one group interview with workshop instructors, two individual interviews with the instructors, four peer interviews with students at the workshops, one student peer interview conducted as a radio programme, and nine individual student interviews. The data were collected at three workshops during the summer, autumn and spring 2015-2016 for the research project "Young People in the Limelight", which was funded by the Kone foundation.
At the workshops, the young students attended photography trips and performed photography-related tasks and familiarised themselves with the field of media. Themes that arose from the field journals included publicity and publishing, peer research, youth participation in decision-making, interpreting photographs, media participation, committing oneself to the workshop, self-expression, and generally learning about photography.
The individual interviews were conducted during the autumn and spring. In the summer, the instructors were interviewed in groups. Each interview used an individual interview frame. The researchers also observed the young people during the workshops.
Background information in the data included the interviewee's age, gender and occupation. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.
The dataset is only available in Finnish.
