Abstract

The dataset consists of interviews with professionals in the field of education and guidance on the topic of gender and culture sensitive career guidance. The interviews examine how the interviewees implement gender and culture sensitive guidance in their own work. The dataset has been collected as part of the Potential - Promoting gender and culture sensitive career guidance project.

The interview framework consisted of set questions and themes. The interviewees were asked how they provide career guidance and how young people are introduced to future education and career opportunities. The interviews investigated how the interviewees recognise differences between individuals and their backgrounds and how the interviewees take these into account in career guidance work. The interviews also covered how different policies and laws are taken into account in career guidance work, and how equality issues are addressed during studies and in the workplace. Finally, the interviewees were asked what career guidance work was like during the COVID-19 pandemic. The interviews were conducted remotely in 2020.

Background information included the interviewee's occupation, educational background, place of work, and years of work experience in career guidance. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

Sampling Procedure

Non-probability: Availability

The interviewees were selected from among those who had indicated their willingness to participate in an interview when completing the Potential project's online survey. The number of people who signed up to be interviewed was larger than the number of interviewees included in the data, and the researchers purposively selected individuals who represented professionals who did career guidance work in different settings for interview.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The researcher has anonymised the data by removing the names of individuals and localities. Where necessary, identifiers concerning the jobs, occupations, and degrees of the interviewees have been either removed or coarsened to a more general level. Additionally, the researcher has removed information concerning the interviewees' jobs and families from the data. Changes made by the researcher are marked with [square brackets]. The following changes were made at FSD following the researcher's anonymisation guidelines: the names of five cities and neighbourhoods were removed and the name of one interviewee's family member was removed. Changes made at FSD are marked with [[double brackets]].
