Abstract

The Citizens' Pulse surveys examine Finnish attitudes and opinions on current issues, such as trust in other people and institutions, international relations, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and physical activity habits. They also assess respondents' general state of mind and concerns. This combined dataset includes two Citizens' Pulse datasets collected in 2025. The variable kierros25 contains information on the collection round in which each question was asked. The questionnaire files are available in the study descriptions of the individual datasets in the Citizens' Pulse series.

Background variables included the language responded in, the respondent's gender, age group, region, level of education, as well as information on household composition and the household's financial situation.

Sampling Procedure

Probability: Stratified

The samples for the individual collection rounds were formed from respondents living in mainland Finland who had responded to Statistics Finland's Labour Force Survey and for whom a current telephone number meeting the criteria could be found. The sample size of the first collection round was 5,591 persons and that of the second 5,062. The persons included in the survey samples had first responded to the Labour Force Survey and then agreed to participate in a follow-up study. The sample for the Labour Force Survey is drawn as a stratified random sample from Statistics Finland's population database, which is based on the Central Population Register.

An invitation and a personal direct link to the online questionnaire were sent to those included in the sample by text message. The text message also contained a link to Statistics Finland's data collection webpage, where respondents are informed about, among other things, data protection. The data collection page also includes a link to the privacy notice. Reminder messages were sent to those who had not responded after two days, on Friday, and on the morning of the last day, Monday. The response rate of the first collection round was 39 per cent and that of the second 33.4 per cent. More information on the sampling methods is available in the study descriptions of the individual datasets in the Citizens' Pulse series from 2025.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The dataset archived at the Finnish Social Science Data Archive does not include responses to open-ended questions.

Weighting

The data contain two weight variables. The variable kierrospaino ('round weight”) can be used when looking at data from a specific collection round, and the variable vuosipaino ('annual weight”) when using the entire dataset. The weight variables weight the data to correspond to the target population (people aged 15-74 residing in mainland Finland).
