Relationship Between Health and Gaming in Human Life Course: International and Longitudinal ORE Study
Description
The longitudinal qualitative ORE series has a “3-3-3” structure: three groups of people were studied for three years in three countries. The studied groups represented people a) who had experienced problems with their videogame play and sought treatment, b) people who played videogames competitively more than four hours daily but did not experience related problems, and adolescents aged 12-14 who played videogames two or more hours daily. The datasets was collected in Finland, Slovakia, and South Korea between 2022–2027. Some participants represent other nationalities too.
The datasets consist of two primary annual interview formats: gaming interviews that focus on videogame experiences and life, and clinical interviews that focus on health and wellbeing. Short entrance interviews were additionally carried out at the start with the adolescent group. As supplementary data, the series also includes diaries from all participants (up to nine entries per year) and transcribed panel discussions where clinicians provide interpretations concerning the wellbeing of selected participants. All data are shared in original languages and as English translations. The series was collected as part of the ERC funded project ORE (101042052).
