Sisällön kuvaus

The survey charted the employment situation and placement in job of persons who had obtained a postgraduate degree from the University of Tampere in the year 2003. The data were collected in 2005. The respondents were asked about their current employment situation, nature of the work, whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications, and whether a postgraduate degree was a requirement for it. Experiences of working or studying abroad, and participation in a graduate school were studied.

Some questions covered respondents' work history between the graduate and postgraduate degrees. Respondents were also asked whether they had stopped gainful employment for postgraduate studies and how had they financed their studies. One topic pertained to job searching: job searching methods used, and employment sectors and type of employers approached were investigated. Respondents were asked why they had wanted a postgraduate degree, and whether the degree had enhanced or hindered their career opportunities.

Background variables included respondent's gender and field of study.

The questionnaire was sent to all persons who had obtained a postgraduate degree at the University of Tampere in 2003 (in total 134 persons). The data were collected in the spring of 2005.

Aineiston käytössä huomioitavaa

Variables connected to questionnaire questions 1, 2, 7.1., and 16.1. are missing. The dataset does not contain the answers to open-ended response options of the type "Something else, please specify" nor specifying responses to questions 7.1, 16.1, 22, 23, 24, 28 and 30. To prevent identification, job title (q5) and degree level (bv2) were removed from the data during archiving. In addition, fields of study with only a small number of graduates were categorised together with other fields.
