Sisällön kuvaus
This dataset consists of the combined responses from all respondent groups to the baseline and follow-up surveys collected in Finland as part of the Inclusive Promotion of Health and Wellbeing (PROMEQ 2016-2019) research project, which studied population groups that need special support. Themes of the surveys included social participation, mental and physical well-being, use of social and health services, and satisfaction with life. The respondent groups included young people not in employment or education, the long-term unemployed, immigrants, and people aged over 65. The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental design, meaning that some respondents participated in various interventions while others did not. The combined data include those questions that were consistently repeated for all respondent groups. More extensive data collected from each respondent group are also available at FSD (datasets FSD3432-FSD3435). The aim of the PROMEQ project was to develop and demonstrate novel models of promotion of health and wellbeing.
The surveys included many scales and questions used in other studies. Questions were selected, for instance, from the Finnish Youth Surveys, as well as the Regional Health and Well-being Study (ATH) and Welfare and Services in Finland (HYPA) surveys conducted by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). Most questions included in the baseline surveys were repeated in the follow-up surveys.
First, the surveys charted the respondents' living conditions, income, loans and need for financial aid or food assistance. The respondents' health, well-being and quality of life were examined, and satisfaction with different spheres of life was also surveyed. Social relationships and trust were examined next. The respondents were asked about feelings of loneliness and belonging, their social life, social participation, and trust in other people and various institutions. Additionally, experiences of discrimination based on several factors were charted, and the respondents' opinions on their own opportunities in life were surveyed.
Finally, the respondents' use of social and health services in the past 12 months (3 or 6 months in the follow-up surveys) was examined. Questions also focused on the respondents' satisfaction with the availability of various social and public services and their participation in group activities promoting health and well-being (e.g. weight management groups, AA, NA). The respondents' lifestyle was examined with questions on their exercise, eating and drinking habits.
Background variables included, among others, the respondent's gender, year of birth, marital status, highest level of education, household composition, and economic activity and occupational status. Additionally, the background information included whether the respondent belonged to the test or control group.

The different respondent groups were reached in various ways. To form the respondent group of young people not in employment or education, the opportunity to participate in the study was offered to all clients of targeted youth work services in the selected regions. To reach long-term unemployed respondents, the opportunity was offered to unemployed clients of unemployment services who had had difficulties becoming employed. The sample of immigrants was formed in collaboration with different local organisations in the selected regions. Respondents aged 65 and over were found through newspaper advertisements and by promoting the opportunity to participate in the study at, for example, day centres for the elderly, parishes, and pharmacies.
The respondents were assigned into test and control groups. The test groups participated in varied interventions. More information on the samples and interventions for each respondent group is available in the related datasets (FSD3432-FSD3435).

Aineiston käytössä huomioitavaa
In the data, baseline survey variables are marked with the initial k and follow-up survey variables with the initial f. The questionnaire (quF3436.pdf) contains more information in Finnish on the scales used in the surveys. Questions that charted the respondent's experiences from the past 12 months in the baseline survey are mainly included in the follow-up surveys as charting experiences from the past 6 months.
To prevent identification of respondents, open-ended variables concerning where the respondent participated in group activities as well as the respondent's housing situation and economic activity and occupational status were removed from the data. Additionally, variables denoting number of children in the household, respondent's year of birth, age, height, and weight (bv5, k7_1 f7_1, k3, f3, k42, f42, k43, f43) were either top or bottom coded. In variable bv2 denoting municipality of residence, the responses of immigrants were removed. For young people not in employment or education and for the long-term unemployed, the response 'widowed' in variables k3 and f3 denoting marital status was marked as missing information. In variable bv2 denoting municipality of residence, the municipalities of Imatra and Outokumpu were combined into one category. The open-ended responses left in the data were reviewed and anonymised if necessary.
In continuous variables (k34, k35, k36, k43), responses given as a range were coded into the mean of the range. Additionally, responses including an 'approximately' estimation were recoded into a numeric variable (the number given in the response).
The data consist of the questions that were consistently repeated in all surveys for all respondent groups. The numbering and order of the variables may not correspond to the original questionnaires. Variables f10 denoting income and f17_1 and f17_2 denoting resources were removed from the data because of their ambiguity. Additionally, height information for people aged over 65 was removed from variable k43 because of illegal values.
Painokertoimet
