The dataset consists of self-administered written texts and interviews on body positivity and the lupanäkyä ("permission to be visible") campaign and hashtag on social media. The lupanäkyä hashtag was part of the Vaakakapina ("Rebellion against scales") movement launched by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE). The study was conducted as part of the Sexuality and Play in Media Culture research project, and it was funded by the Academy of Finland (project number 309382).

The data were collected in two phases. In the first phase, a writing invitation was shared in the Jenny ja läskimyytinmurtajat Facebook group. The writing invitation prompted participants to describe what the lupanäkyä hashtag and the selfies that they had posted under the hashtag had meant for them. In the second phase of data collection, the individuals who had taken part in the first phase of the study were interviewed. During the interviews, the participants' relationship with social media and selfies, as well as their use of social media were examined. The participants were also asked about the image that they had shared under the lupanäkyä hashtag, for example, what was the image like and how did they decide which image to share under the hashtag. All interviewees had not posted an image of themselves under the lupanäkyä hashtag.

Background information included the participant's gender and age group. The data were organised into an easy to use HTML version at FSD.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.
