Sisällön kuvaus
The dataset contains information on the status and roles of authors of Finnish scholarly journals in the period 1841-1939. It contains data from articles published by the oldest Finnish learned societies that accepted amateurs as members, namely the Societas pro Fauna et Flora Fennica (SFFF), the Finnish Literature Society (SKS) and the Finnish Antiquarian Society (SMY).
The SFFF publications include Acta Botanica Fennica, Acta Societatis pro fauna et flora Fennica, Acta Zoologica Fennica, Meddelanden af Societas pro Fauna et Flora Fennica and Notiser ur Sällskapets pro Fauna et Flora Fennica förhandlingar. SMY's publications include the journal of the Finnish Antiquarian Society and SKS's publications include Suomi. Kirjoituksia isän-maallisista aineista (Finland: Writings on patriotic subjects).
The data of the publications are in their own tabs in the data file. For some publications, the data are divided by period into several tabs. The following information has been collected from articles in scholarly journals: volume, year of publication, author's name, author's role (academic researcher, student, amateur, unknown), author's status (e.g. information on author's education, degrees and professions) and data sources (e.g. registers of the University of Helsinki, the Finnish National Bibliography and minutes of associations). Additionally, information on the abbreviations used and the proportions of different author roles are also collected in tabs.
