Sisällön kuvaus

The survey examined the achieved and expected scientific and societal impact of the research programmes funded by the Strategic Research Council (SRC) in 2015-2021. The Strategic Research Council is an independent body established within the Research Council of Finland. The funded strategic research programmes are a Climate-Neutral and Resource-Scarce Finland (PIHI), Equality in Society (EQUA), Disruptive Technologies and Changing Institutions (TECH) and Changing Society and Active Citizenship (CITIZEN, 2017-2021). In total, there were 20 research consortia, or clusters of projects, under the research programmes.

The respondents were asked to evaluate the effectiveness of their consortium in promoting the objectives of SRC funding, such as interdisciplinary knowledge, high-quality research processes, career development and networking. They also assessed the added value of the characteristics of SRC funding, such as large-scale consortia, relatively long-term funding, coordinated programme activities and emphasis on societal impact.

The respondents also assessed the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration within their consortia, for example in terms of research focus, data gathering, application and generalisation of results, and working practices. They were also asked whether there was research collaboration between different SRC consortia.

Finally, the respondents assessed interactions with societal stakeholders, such as targeting, amount and resources. They were also asked how the societal relevance and impact of strategic research programmes could be further strengthened.

As background information, the respondent was asked about his/her research consortium and organisation and whether he/she had any previous knowledge of the other partners in the consortium.
