Sisällön kuvaus

The survey examined child and family social work clients' experiences of social welfare services and social work practice. The data was collected as part of the SULAVA project, which studied the quality and effectiveness of social welfare services in the Inland Finland collaborative area in 2024-2025.

First, the survey examined families' use of social services and their need for these services. Respondents were asked, for example, how long they had been clients, for what reason, and how often they meet or are in contact with their social welfare worker. In addition, respondents were asked to assess their family's quality of life. This was followed by questions about customer service experiences within social welfare services and the content of social work practice. Respondents were asked about their experiences with social welfare services, the actions of social workers, and their interactions with them. They assessed, among other things, the expertise, understanding, and reliability of social workers, as well as their satisfaction with the services received.

Next, respondents were asked to evaluate their satisfaction with the support provided by different actors. They also assessed how well social work practice had met their own goals and expectations. In addition, respondents described which aspects of the work or which services had been most and least helpful to them. Finally, they evaluated how their life situation had changed during their time as clients.

Background variables include the respondent's gender, age, mother tongue, position within the family, wellbeing services county, level of education, economic activity, household size, and the number and ages of children who are clients of family services.

Total universe/Complete enumeration

The data were collected using a complete sampling method from clients of family services in the wellbeing services counties of South Ostrobothnia and Kanta-Häme. The sample was limited to those clients who had phone numbers recorded in the wellbeing services counties' systems. The survey was sent to 2,054 client families via text message, which included a brief request to participate and a link to the questionnaire. In South Ostrobothnia, the survey was sent to 1,331 client families, and in Kanta-Häme to 723 client families. In addition to the initial message, two reminder messages were sent. At the end of the questionnaire, there was a separate contact form that could not be linked to the survey responses and that participants could fill in if they wished to take part in a later interview.

Aineiston käytössä huomioitavaa

To prevent identification, the researchers have removed names of individuals, locations, organisations, companies, and other identifying information from the data.

To prevent identification of respondents, FSD further anonymised the data by removing children's ages, sensitive information and the name of one third party from the open-ended responses. Changes made at FSD are marked with [[double square brackets]]. In addition, background variables containing open-ended responses to the response option "Other, please specify" were removed from the data, and the number of adults and children in the household were top-coded.

Painokertoimet

There are no weight variables in the data.

The application to Pirha - for a university-level thesis or research project - is completed through the Researcher’s Digital Service Portal: https://www.pirha.fi/ammattilaiselle/tutkimus. Please note that the portal and the related webpage are available only in Finnish. Applicants who do not speak Finnish are advised to contact Pirha’s research coordinators directly for assistance: pirhatutkimus@pirha.fi.
